André, alias Slowtraveler

 Host

The alias Slowtraveler, derived from the concept of slow walking, emphasizes my vision of undertaking walking with greater patience, and passion, with greater attention for each other, benefiting the outcome - better expectation of stable health.

I, too, have encountered life in many tones; physically and mentally, I have had to face both significant and lesser challenges. Throughout all of this, I, somewhat unconsciously at the time, fortunately chose to maintain movement as much as possible.

Experiencing that going into motion again means ignoring (false) excuses, but more importantly, that receiving (and offering) attention has made a difference. Now I am in a position to take on greater physical and mental achievements, fully confident that setbacks have no negative impact. Personally, medically demonstrable experiences over the past few years have given me the conviction that relaxation and effort are key, prompting me to share this.

Walking, the mother of all movement, is the foundation for building health. Working on resilience through consistent movement can essentially begin at any age. Regular walking supports resilience well into old age.

Slowtraveler works with a range of proven and demonstrable (including personal) experiences, providing you with tools for a solid foundation, ground-zero, or base camp, upon which you can fall back. For less dropout, better stability, recovery, or starting anew, for a better expectation of stable health.

The great thing about movement is that it has benefits everywhere in your body: heart, lungs, muscles, bones, and your mental health.

See How

Walking, the mother of all movement, has gone hand-in-hand with our development since the moment we stood upright on two legs as humans.

In this awareness, you will find the BONDY© concept and infrastructure on this platform to promote sustainable movement.

The power of experience to make movement more appealing, especially doing it together with care for one another.

A good pair of hiking shoes and appropriate clothing are sufficient to approach each day with renewed energy, creativity, and optimism.

My Story

In 2002, several issues came together, and not in a positive way. A heart attack was the precursor to a number of "deficiencies" that I could not have imagined at the time. I was exercising, as much as work allowed, and that should be enough, right? The fact that I had a stressful job, carried more than a few extra kilos (as my mother-in-law put it, "how are you too heavy, where is that?"), and that I spent more than 10 hours a day in a (car) seat because of my work and location, was irrelevant – I was exercising! To make a long story short: my body protested and ended up in the hospital with a heart attack.

In the wake of that came type II diabetes and varicose veins in my legs. During my rehabilitation, I became more aware of the importance of more regular moving. And yet, I was reluctant to restart my previous athletic activities (which included water polo, competitive swimming, and running), as the effort to get back to (amateur) level was significant. I started walking, to be precise. I eventually found a nice routine with a certain frequency, alternating with different distances. And that is where I am now, maximizing my fitness results with relaxed effort.

No more restrictive diet; blood sugar levels are normal again, weight is under control, varicose veins are not a problem, and my fitness is above expectations. I feel strong enough to take on other athletic challenges, like hiking for multiple consecutive days.
